I had been trying to decide what material to use to make ruffled cushion covers for my outdoor setting when, a few weeks back i was inspired by Courtney from French Country Cottage to give drop cloths a try and i am sooooo happy i did. They were affordable and the perfect neutral colour. You can find Courtney's post on drop cloth window shades and i think even the gorgeous armchair has been upholstered in the drop cloths here.
Before we take a look i just want to say i am NOT a seamstress (as you can see).... but i can sew basic items and even though i failed sewing at school :( .... i eventually taught myself through trial and error over the years. I made up a pattern using scrap material and did a trial run to make sure it worked out ok before i started cutting into the drop cloths. The cover is basically a large square (a bit bigger than the seat itself) with a wide ruffle and a simple ribbon style bow at the back, the bow was a last minute... not sure how to make it work situation but it turned out ok... could have been better but it will do.
Yes i use to have have a white cane table and chairs out here but my mum wanted to swap so this setting is probably not my first choice if i was buying one (sorry mum) but it was free and looks lovely out here and now that i have made the covers and in the process of making a ruffled table cloth i am loving it more and more everyday... so no complaints from me :)
Loving the setting and my covers
All six covers and a large ruffled tablecloth for $50...yes $50!!!
A bargain i say!
